For Entrepreneurs | 5 Books to Get Your Motivation Up and Money In Check | Hazelwood Photo Co.
Needing motivation and money management skills but don’t know where to start?
Here, I’m breaking down my top 5 books of 2020 to give you a head start into getting your finances in check and keeping your business rolling along.
As a business owner, finding time to read books can sometimes (always) be difficult, but driving to and from sessions and working at my computer is the perfect time to listen to a good book using Audible. I listen in the car, at home, in the grocery store (yay for AirPods), and pretty much any other time I’m not required to hold a conversation with another human. Here are my top 5 books from this year so far and a little breakdown of why I loved each of them!
Number 5:
You Are A Badass At Making Money by Jen Sincero
I’m pretty sure that money mindset is something that everyone struggles with (or has struggled with at one point in their lifetime). Until reading this book, I never realized how much of a negative relationship most people, including myself, have with money and this book changed that for the better. I highly recommend this book to anyone feeling guilty for wanting to make more money, feeling like you cannot possibly make more than you already do, or just looking to change how your brain perceives money.
Number 4:
Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki
This book is another one that will challenge the way you think and feel about money. By narrating his upbringing, the author brings to light the issues with how people teach their children about money and the things that you can do to reverse what you were taught in your youth and become a successful entrepreneur. I have recommended this book to all of my friends and will continue shouting from the rooftops that every single person needs to read this book.
Number 3:
Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller
If you’re anything like me, you struggle with branding. Merging who you are as a person and the brand that your clients want to hire is the toughest job of them all in my opinion. In Building a Story Brand, Donald Miller breaks down the ways to create a brand that people can relate with, and clients will want to hire. He gives actionable advice and provides extra goodies to help you on your way to becoming a brand name that everyone knows!
Number 2:
Money Honey by Rachel Richards
I know what you’re thinking, another money book? YES! Rachel is a financial genius, and you are missing out big time if you haven’t read this book yet. I first listened to Rachel talk on a friend’s podcast (shoutout to She Persists with Gretchen Bell) and I knew that I had to read her book immediately. It’s a step by step guide of setting your business and yourself up for financial success- things I will always keep learning about! Once you’ve read (or listened to) Money Honey, find her other book “Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement” and give it a read too. You can find it here : https://amzn.to/3iNTdGy.
and finally, number 1:
Atomic Habits by James Clear
This book is far and wide my number one pick for this list and for great reason. Without good habits, your wheels keep spinning and never go anywhere. Habits are something I have always struggled with but this year it has become my top priority to be better. Better habits means getting things done, being a better business owner, healthier human being, and just overall a better person. This book is an easy read that blew my mind over and over again. A definite must read for everyone- business owner or not!
If you’ve made it this far- thanks for reading along! I hope by sharing these resources that have helped me, I can inspire you to dig into these books and make your 2020 the best year yet- even with the not so great start!
